The Columbia County Board of Commissioners approved the Technology Department’s request for over $47,000 toward securing the AIG Special Risk Protection Cyber Security insurance on Tuesday.

Funding for the policy was requested by Michael Blanchard, technology director, in order to insure for damages in case Columbia County’s network data were breached. The original amount requested was over $45,000. The request was put on the debate agenda due to an additional $1,800 required for insurance premium tax.

A resolution to approve an encroachment agreement on 227 Hornsby Lane was tabled to the Aug. 17 board meeting because of a variance to be considered by the board.

The commission approved several other resolutions at the meeting, including a conditional use for a daycare at a parcel on 4234 Columbia Rd., currently zoned as a professional area.

The board granted conditional use for a gym, a school of the arts and minor vehicle repair at 4107 Colben Blvd., currently zoned light industrial.

The board also accepted a resolution to grant $219,000 to Flag Real Estate Holdings for right of way permits and temporary easements for the Horizon South Parkway road widening project.
