The improvements happening to Lewiston Road are to add a second northbound left turn lane at the signal for Lewiston and William Few Parkway. These two westbound lanes will be forced to merge just west of the signal causing backups and delays that could affect both the operation of the signal and traffic coming off the interchange. According to the request for proposal, Columbia County approved to widen William Few Parkway in this area to address this concern.
The expected completion date for the Lewiston Road widening project is November 2023 according to the request for proposal.
Columbia County Commissioners also approved an upgrade for new playground equipment at Savannah Rapids Park.
The Purchasing Cooperative of America agreement will be used for the purchase of the new playground for the amount of $220,360.19. The project is expected to be funded out of 17-22 SPLOST park upgrades.
