Columbia County Commission Set to Meet Sept. 21

The Columbia County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to vote on Mi Rancho Mexican Restaurant’s alcoholic beverage license Tuesday.

The restaurant chain is in the process of opening a new location in Martinez at the outparcel at 407 Furys Ferry Rd. at the shopping center anchored by Publix Super Market.

A contractor agreement with Augusta attorney Mukti Patel is on the consent agenda for the meeting. Columbia County Juvenile Court intends to contract Patel to act as independent prosecutor for Children in Need of Services at a rate of $1,300 per month. The position has been vacant since June 30.

Other business on the agenda for the board are two rezoning and variance requests. The commissioners are slated to vote on whether a parcel on 287 Settlement Rd. will be rezoned from general commercial to heavy commercial with a conditional use for light industrial for office or warehouse development. There is also a variance request in order to reduce buffers and setbacks against adjacent general commercial property.

The request for rezoning a property at 4414 Hereford Farm Rd. to professional from its current listing as single family residential is also on the agenda. The purpose of the rezoning request is for setting up chiropractic and other future professional offices. Its variance request for its lot and structure requirements aims to reduce setback for an existing shed.
