Columbia County Commissioners to discuss homestead exemption

The Columbia County Board of Commissioner will discuss House Bill 581 regarding the homestead exemption during the meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

According to the agenda document, the Columbia County Board of Commissioners intend to opt out of the homestead exemption. There will be three public hearings on the topic. They will be held:

  • Jan. 21 at 6 p.m.
  • Jan. 28 at 10 a.m.
  • Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. 

All three hearings will be held in the auditorium at the Evans Government Center Complex.

The commission will also approve appointments for multiple boards and committees during the meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 7. According to the draft document posted on Friday, the board who will have members either reappointed or appointed are: Animal Services Advisor Board, Civil Services Commission, Construction Board, Drainage Basin Advisory Council, History Property Preservation Advisory Committee Hospital Authority, Planning Commission, Public Facilities Authority, Recreation Board, Tree Advisory Board, Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, EMS Advisory Board, Greater Clarks Hill Regional Library Board and the Library Board of Trustees.

The Greater Clarks Hill Regional Library Board and Library Board of Trustees has one reappointment with Barry Paschal, two new appointments of Marti Jackson and David Davis, and one blank spot to be filled by Commissioner Alison Couch. The document does not mention who the new appointees will be replacing.
