Tuesday is a busy day for Columbia County government as the Public Works and Engineering Services (PWES), Community and Emergency Services (CES), Hospital Authority (HA) and Public Facilities Authority (PFA) are all meeting.

Community and Emergency Services

The CES Committee will discuss a library services agreement with the Greater Clarks Hill Regional Library System (GCHRLS).

“This agreement outlines the services provided by the Greater Clarks Hill Regional Library System, and outlines the annual budget appropriations from the Georgia Public Library System for the salaries reimbursement grant, materials grant, and system service grant,” according to the agenda document

The agreement is for July 1 – Dec. 31, 2025. Starting Jan. 1, 2026, Columbia County will leave the GCHRLS and form its own, single county library system

Public Works and Engineering Services

On the agenda for the PWES committee is the “Waze for Cities” data sharing agreement. Waze is a navigation app that can be used for directions, real-time traffic updates and more.

“The “Waze for Cities” Program is a royalty-free, non-exclusive partnership between “Waze”/Google and government agencies that allows data sharing to increase efficiency of route navigation, thereby providing opportunities to increase traffic network efficiency. By accepting the Terms of Service required to enter into the “Waze for Cities” agreement, the Traffic Department will be able to upload planned road/lane closures, detours, school zone times, etc. into the “Waze for Cities” upload tool. This information will then be made available to the public, via the “Waze” and Google Maps navigation apps, for improved real-time insights to traffic conditions,” according to the agenda document.

Staff is recommending approval.

Public Facilities Authority and Hospital Authority

The Public Facilities Authority has one item on its agenda under new business and that’s to discuss pending applications.

The Hospital Authority has no new items listed on the agenda.

The committees will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium at the Evans Government Center Complex. The Public Facilities Authority will meet at 9:30 a.m. and the Hospital Authority will meet at 10 a.m., both in the commissioners’ conference room in Building B.
