The Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), a local agency dedicated to the conservation and stewardship of the area’s natural resources, is now accepting entries for a poster contest for students located within the district’s service area.

The third annual poster contest will provide public, private and homeschooled students in third to fifth grade a chance for their art to be selected to compete in the state contest.

Prizes will be awarded for the top three winners in the poster contest. First place will receive $100, while second and third place will be consecutively awarded $50 and $25.

Each year, the poster topic aims to reflect the National Association of Conservation District’s annual Stewardship theme and highlights the work of Conservation Districts to protect and enhance natural resources.

“This year’s theme ‘Home is Where the Habitat is’ highlights the essential role of both natural and managed habitats in our conservation efforts,” according to a press release from the Georgia Association of Conservation Districts.

Posters can be made from any medium, but must be created by one individual. Children’s entries must also feature on the front side the stewardship theme “Home is Where the Habitat is.”

The deadline to enter the contest is Feb. 28 and can be submitted to dana@gacd.us

Submissions must be submitted with an emailed picture of the poster, along with completed local and state entry forms.

The Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District is a unit of state government that directs natural resource management programs in Columbia County.

The Conservation District works with farmers, landowners and with practices that support the conservation, and use and development of soil, water and related resources.

“Education is a critical element of conservation efforts at the local, state and national levels,” stated a press release from the Georgia Association of Conservation Districts. “Educating young people about the benefits of conservation helps to ensure the next generation will be wise stewards of America’s natural resources.”
