Work on tennis courts throughout the county is moving forward.

The Development and Planning Services Committee approved moving forward with a bid from Continental Construction Company for the Columbia County tennis courts for $1,875,000 to renovate 13 courts at Patriots Park, Riverside Park and Lonnie Morris Park.

Steven Prather, director of Facilities Design and Construction, said this is to replace lighting, fencing, do some surfacing work, some court striping and more. The work will be done in phases, so not all the courts will be closed at the same time. This project will be paid out of the 2017-2022 SPLOST.

The Management and Internal Services Committee approved moving forward with purchasing a new AFIS machine for fingerprinting purposes for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

“The sheriff’s office was notified by the GBI that they’re moving to a different platform,” said County Manager Scott Johnson. “The AFIS system, which is the automated fingerprint identification system, has to be updated if we want to continue to receive those in real time. there is a direct purchase from one vendor, the total amount of purchase $36,950.”

The funds will come out of contingency. Committee members approved moving forward with the purchase.
