Columbia County Fire Rescue is launching a new initiative to offer free CPR training to the general public, responding to growing community demand for lifesaving education.

Beginning late April, residents can attend CPR courses led by certified instructors at no cost, according to a press release from Columbia County Fire Rescue. The new training program will ensure community members are equipped with skills needed to respond in emergency situations.

The first class will be held at the Columbia County Emergency Operations Center, located at 650 Ronald Reagan Drive in Evans, on April 22 at 6 p.m.

The two-hour course will cover basic CPR techniques and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Additional CPR courses will be offered monthly through the end of the year, with each session scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Dates include:

  • May 22
  • June 26
  • July 21
  • Aug. 20
  • Sept. 24
  • Oct. 14
  • Nov. 13
  • Dec. 8

Course locations may vary, but updates will be provided to registered participants.

In addition to the regular CPR courses, Columbia County Fire Rescue will also offer two more in-depth Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED courses on June 7 and Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. These full-day Saturday sessions include training in basic first aid alongside CPR and AED instruction.

The courses are offered through the American Heart Association and are designed for individuals with limited or no medical training who need certification for job, regulatory or personal purposes, according to a press release from Columbia County Fire Rescue.

All participants who successfully complete the course will receive a two-year completion card.

To register for a course, email DBLESSING@columbiacountyga.gov. Spaces are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
