On Friday evening, over three hundred in Columbia County donned neon shirts and glow sticks to run or walk along the Euchee Creek Greenway Trail, which stretches in part through Patriot’s Park.

This small portion of the full trail, which in its entirety stretches nearly 19 miles, makes for a one and a half mile track down and back.

Christi Deloach who oversees the county’s outdoor recreation said this particular event was a chance for families to engage in heart healthy fun while the weather is pleasant.

“We’re just trying to get our families more active, get them out, get them involved,” she said.

The Let’s Glow Crazy Run falls under the umbrella of Columbia County’s MOVE program, a county-run initiative offering workout classes and wellness events.

The community can expect similar events in the near future, with Deloach stating the county is entertaining the idea of introducing some 5k races and potentially a color run.

Keeping it moving alongside community

Eighth grader Mark Anderson was the first to finish the trail on Friday, coming in with a time of nine minutes and 12 seconds.

Anderson, who runs track, said it was “probably the fastest I’ve ever ran.”

“It makes it fun for friends and family to run together,” he added.

Kari Grover said she enjoyed running the trail, as well as her son Elend who gave the experience a thumbs up.

“I personally don’t like running alone…doing these types of community races allows me to keep moving my body, to keep challenging myself and to not run alone and to give my kids opportunities to run too.”
