Are you looking for a new job or wanting a change in career?

The Columbia County Board of Commissioners will be holding a job fair Monday, March 13 for different professional and skilled-trade positions.

Jeff Carney, the HR director for the county, said there will be 15 departments, including fire rescue, sheriff’s office, library services, and more, set up at the event for interested candidates to browse and find out more information about the department.

“What the applicant will do is they’ll come in and we’ll give them a map of the setup, tell them about the jobs, and the benefits and then they’ll go through and see what’s there,” Carney said.

Columbia County offers a starting base pay of $15 an hour and a variety of benefits, including 11 paid holidays, a retirement plan, employee medical clinic, education tuition reimbursement and free life insurance.

Those who want to attend can bring their resume to leave with the representatives or use one of the five laptops that will be present to send in their information, Carney said.

As for why people should come out to the event, Carney said it’s a good opportunity for people looking for a change.

“If they’re looking to work for a top quality employer, we’re it,” Carney said. “Our applicants are double over where they were last year…it’s a good time if they want to work for a (good company).”

The county holds two jobs fairs a year, one in the spring and one in the fall, and Carney said there is usually around 300 people who attend.

The job fair will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Columbia County Exhibition Center, 212 Partnership Drive in Grovetown. Those interested in working for the county can apply online at https://www.columbiacountyga.gov/county/jobs.
