Columbia County officially kicked off Screen on the Green 2025 with a free showing of “The Wizard of Oz” on April 25.

Screen on the Green is Columbia County’s quarterly outdoor movie event, which has been ongoing now for years. According to Janet Wheatley, programs and events manager, it’s an easy way to get out of the house and make memories.

“It’s just a fun way for people to come out, see a movie. It might be a new movie, it might be an old movie, and then bring your family, friends,” she said.

Up next

The 1930s Hollywood classic starring Judy Garland which played on Friday is a fitting predecessor to this year’s next Screen on the Green movie, which Wheatley says will be “Wicked,” the Wicked Witch of the East’s big-screen backstory starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

The date for the showing of Wicked has yet to be announced.

Know if you go

Screen on the Green movies are shown at Gateway Park, located at 215 Partnership Drive in Grovetown.

Food is also typically available for viewers, per Wheatley: “We usually bring a couple of food trucks out, so there’s usually snacks or food that people can purchase while they’re here.”
