The Columbia County Library System board approved a new director during its meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

The system approved Keisha Evans, the Columbia County libraries manager, as the new director for the Columbia County Library System.

The board also approved an agreement with the Columbia County Board of Commissioners. The agreement will have to go before the Columbia County Board of Commissioners for approval as well. The agreement is valid until June 30, 2026.

There were no questions or comments on it from the board members.

During the public portion of the meeting Karin Parham asked the board to take a vote at the meeting to rescind the library guidelines that were approved in 2024. At the meeting on Nov. 6, it was noted the guidelines would be address in the updated collection development policy once a new director was hired.

“I’m asking you to rescind the guidelines now before Jan. 1 so this new system can start fresh,” Parham said. “You have a quorum and you can make a motion today stating that the new Columbia County Library System cannot carry this policy forward. Rescinding the guidelines now would restore materials to their appropriate shelves and give the incoming library director and this board a clean slate to develop a thoughtful evidence-based collection development policy without inheriting all the baggage. So, will you do that? Will you make a motion today and vote to rescind the guidelines?”
