A Martinez man has been sentenced to 55 years for possessing child sexual abuse material.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the Briarwood Drive home of Carlton Allen Canter, 35, in January, according to a news release. Investigators determined that Canter was in possession of 15 exploitative images of a child under age 12.

Canter pleaded guilty Monday to 15 counts of possessing child sexual abuse material. Columbia County Superior Court Judge Barry A. Fleming sentenced him to 55 years, with the first 40 years to be served in prison, the release said.

The Columbia County Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office expressed appreciation to Columbia County sheriff’s office investigators Ryan Hensley and Allison Foster for their “dedication to keeping those that prey on children off of our streets,” the release said.
