The Columbia County Management and Internal Services Committee approved recommendations for appointments to the Public Facilities Authority Board.
The staff recommendations are Gary Richardson, District 1, Scott Johnson, District 2, Connie Melear, District 3, Andy Finch, District 4 and a to be determined appointee. County Manager Scott Johnson said they were waiting on the appointee from Board of Commissioners Chair Doug Duncan.
“The governor signed the bill to create the Columbia County Public Facilities Authority. This gives us the ability to do specific projects and be able to issue very specific revenue bonds that can be used by the county, school board and cities,” Johnson said. “The cities have expressed, at least one of the cities has already expressed interest to use the Public Facilities Authority.”
The committee approved moving the item to the debate agenda for the full Columbia County Board of Commissioners.
The committee also approved moving forward with a proclamation declaring Aug. 26 as India Day in Columbia County. The 77th Indian Independence Day celebration will be held this day at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center.
“Whereas, The Indo-American Cultural Association (IACA) is a non-profit organization that was formed to serve the Indian community in Augusta and the CSRA whose mission is to promote the Indian traditions to stay united by a common bond of Indian heritage and American commitment; and Whereas, this organization is the perfect platform to showcase the culture, art, and heritage of India among the local Indian-American population through cultural programs, educational, and charitable activities,” part of the proclamation states.
The proclamation will be presented to the full board at the Aug. 15 meeting.
The Columbia County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15 in the auditorium of the Evans Government Center. For more information, visit columbiacountyga.gov.
