Columbia County MIS committee to discuss Board of Elections members

The appointment of members to the Board of Elections is on the agenda for the Columbia County Management and Internal Services Committee meeting on Tuesday, May 13. 

According to the agenda document, the terms for Larry Wiggins and Wanda Duffie will expire on June 30, 2025. The committee will recommend a member from each political party for a four-year term and the recommendation will go to the full Board of Commissioners, either on the consent agenda or debate agenda. 

The names the Democratic Party submitted are: Larry Wiggins (incumbent), Diane Jarrett and Nicole Midkiff.

The names the Republican Party submitted are: Wanda Duffie (incumbent), Tom Schneider and John Birdsong, III.

Development and Planning Services Committee

On the agenda for discussion during the Development and Planning Services Committee (DPS) meeting is the 2025 Local Road Assistance (LRA) application with Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). According to the agenda document, GDOT sent an email stating LRA funds were included in the amended fiscal year 2025 budget and the allotment for Columbia County is $2,308,021.63 and does not require a match. An application must be submitted by June 15.

The projects the county is submitting include:

  • Newmantown Road for $493,221.75
  • Nature’s Way for $454,704.00
  • Mistletoe Road for $819,450.00
  • Winfield Road for $260,352.00
  • Winfield Hills for $418,122.50 

The DPS Committee will also discuss a proclamation declaring May as Building Safety Month.
