Columbia County has organized a drop-off site for essential goods.
Donation drop-off began Tuesday, Oct. 1 with individuals able to drop off donations of essential goods at The Market, next to the Performing Arts Center, said Cassidy Harris, public relations manager for Columbia County. The need for a donation drop-off site came after the county received hundreds of emails, calls and messages from individuals and surrounding communities following Hurricane Helene hitting the CSRA.
“We’ve organized a drop off site here at The Market, 1000 Market St., every day this week starting at 10 a.m.,” Harris said. “People can drop off donations and it needs to be bottled water, can be distilled water as well, non-perishable food items, diapers, wipes, formula, paper good, toiletries and even pet food.”

The site will be open all week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for donation drop-offs, she said. A time for community members to pick up the donations will be announced either Tuesday evening or Wednesday.
Updates on the pick-up location will be posted on the Columbia County, GA – Government Facebook page.
Other Columbia County updates
On Tuesday, Columbia County announced that the county government office closures will be extended until Monday, Oct. 7. This includes the motor vehicle and property tax divisions, county libraries, Clerk of Court, Probate Court, Magistrate Court and Superior Court.

“This decision comes as crews continue to assess and address the impacts of the storm, including widespread power outages that affect our ability to serve the community effectively. The safety and well-being of our residents and staff are our top priorities. We understand the challenges posed by the current situation and appreciate your patience as we work to restore normal operations,” the county said in a press release.
