The Columbia County Planning Commission voted down two controversial request, Thursday night, both of them for the second time.
Attendees who came to speak out against Bijan Solar’s petition to rezone 0 Columbia Road to Special (S-1) zoning highlighted concerns ranging from toxic chemicals in the panels to potential hazards during storms to vulnerability to cyber-attacks.
Likewise, many residents who came to Thursday’s meeting were present in June to speak against Meister & Marban LLC’s request to rezone its property off Ridge Road in Appling to develop a high-end boat and RV storage facility.
Those residents had not changed their tune this time, noting safety concerns even while offering appreciation for the updates to the design of the facility, which included installing an entrance-only access to the property from Ridge Road, and the exit onto Washington Road.
When these items were voted down over the summer, both applicants withdrew their requests before they were scheduled to go before the Board of Commissioners.
More details on the meeting will be in TAP’s weekend edition.
