Columbia County is urging residents to report any damage to their homes caused by Hurricane Helene to the county appraiser’s office as assessments continue.
The county is working on its annual property valuation process and Chief Appraiser Morgan Aune stated it’s important for residents to contact the assessor’s office to ensure accurate damage assessments.
“We are in the process of evaluating properties as of Jan. 1, and while we’ve conducted initial assessments, there may still be homes that were missed due to inaccessibility or unseen damage,” said Aune.
In a press release, the county said property owners are encouraged to reach out to the assessor’s office if their property was affected by the storm, especially if their property has not been assessed yet. It will also be helpful if the homeowner could provide estimates from contractors and insurance adjustors, which will assist in determining accurate property values.
To report damage, residents can either call the Tax Assessor’s Office at 706-312-7474, email assessor@columbiacountyga.gov or visit the Tax Assessor’s office, located at 630 Ronald Reagan Drive, on the first floor of Building C.
The Columbia County Tax Assessor’s office will be assessing properties for the next six to eight weeks. For more information, contact the Columbia County Assessor’s Office at 706-312-7474.
