The newly renovated Columbia County Racquet Center opened earlier this week.

Wes Horton, Columbia County parks operations manager, said the county was excited for the Racquet Center to reopen after being shut due to damages sustained during Hurricane Helene. With the reopening, not only have the tennis courts reopened, but so have 10 new pickleball courts

“It’s huge,” Horton said of the pickleball courts opening. “We’re expecting a pretty good crowd. We don’t know right off hand because we haven’t opened them up before, so this is something new that we’re going to have to open our doors…and then make adjustments as needed. But we are anticipating a pretty good crowd. Our staff inside has been getting a lot of calls and emails in regards to the pickleball complex. The hype is out there in regards to the residents we have.”

There are 10 pickleball courts that can be reserved. Horton said there is a time limit of an hour block to use the courts. A membership for Columbia County residents is free and $500 a year for non-residents. To set up a membership, he said interested parties need to set up an account at columbiacountyga.gov. and then call 706-860-9288 to add the membership to the account.

“We’re looking forward to it. We’ve been excited for this for a while. The hurricane obviously hurt us pretty bad on the complex, but hats off to our staff, hats off to our administration and county as a whole for really digging in and seeing what was needed to get us where we are today. We couldn’t do it without everybody.”

The Columbia County Racquet Center is located at 421 The Pass.
