Job seekers packed the Columbia County School District’s Support Department Complex on Thursday evening as the district hosted its fall career fair to recruit for open positions across schools and departments.

The event featured representatives from Transportation, Facilities Maintenance and Operations, and School Nutrition who answered questions and conducted on-site interviews.

Hiring across departments

District leaders said the fair focused on filling several essential positions that keep Columbia County’s schools running smoothly.

“We’re always looking to fill custodians, bus drivers, school nutrition staff, and paraprofessionals—those positions are kind of always there for the taking,” said Sean Petro, assistant chief Human Resources officer for CCSD.

“We also employ mechanics, painters, maintenance staff — even technology professionals,” he said. “Even if we don’t have a job posted, contact us. We can always see what’s available that fits your interests and skill set.”

Petro said the district’s success in attracting and retaining employees comes from its supportive work environment and commitment to providing staff with the resources they need to succeed.

“Our superintendent does a great job of making sure teachers are well-resourced and supported,” Petro said. “We have competitive salaries, strong benefits, and leadership that really invests in our people.”

How to apply

Although Thursday’s event has ended, job seekers can still view openings and submit applications online at www.ccboe.net/careers.

Petro encouraged anyone interested in joining the district to reach out directly to human resources even if a position isn’t currently listed.

“If you contact me, I can point you in the right direction,” he said. “We’ll keep your résumé on file and share it with the department that fits your skills.”
