The Columbia County School District will not offer learn-from-home options for elementary students during the 2021-2022 school year. All online learning will take place through the Online Learning Academy.

The Columbia County Board of Education announced its decision to offer only face-to-face learning next year at its meeting Tuesday night.

The board also discussed the continued decline in the numbers of COVID-19 cases in the schools. The school district reported 75 new cases last week. Twenty-one schools reported no employee cases.

Columbia County schools will host outside proms this spring. Evans High School will hold the event in its stadium and Greenbrier High School will have it in its parking lot. Lakeside and Grovetown will hold the celebrations in local parks.

The BOE is considering limiting graduation ceremonies to six guests per graduate. They will revisit the idea after getting parents’ input.

The BOE recognized Eagle Scout recipients Shivum Lal and Ivan Nguyen, both Lakeside High school seniors and also commended the Green Brier High School girls wrestling team for placing third overall in the state championship. They announced Building Coordinator Delta Casey, Greenbrier Middle School, received the East P20 Mentor of the Year award.
