The Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) announced the launch of its annual Poster Contest, open to students in 3rd to 5th grades within the District’s service area, including Columbia County.
The contest offers young artists the opportunity to have their work featured in the state-level competition, with prizes awarded to the top three entries, according to a press release from the Georgia Association of Conservation Districts (GACD).
This year’s theme, “Home Is Where The Habitat Is,” emphasizes the importance of both natural and managed habitats in conservation efforts.
The theme aligns with the National Association of Conservation Districts’ annual Stewardship focus and highlights the pivotal role that habitats play in preserving natural resources for future generations.
The Poster Contest aims to inspire local youth to become stewards of the environment by promoting awareness about conservation practices, according to a press release from GACD.
Entry forms can be obtained at the Columbia County Libraries in Evans, Harlem and Grovetown. The deadline for submissions is July 31.
Posters must be created by an individual student and not a group, and students are encouraged to use any artistic medium, including paint, crayons, colored pencils or stickers.
To be eligible, each poster must include the 2025 theme, “Home Is Where the Habitat Is,” clearly displayed on the front.
The contest is open to all public, private and homeschooled students in Columbia County who are currently in 3rd through 5th grade.
To enter, students must email a picture of their poster along with a fully completed entry form. Submissions missing any required information will not be accepted.
The first-place winner will receive $100, second place will receive $50 and third place will receive $25.
Entries should be submitted via email to dana@gacd.us.
