The Columbia County Board of Commissioners will discuss a major PUD revision for the proposed Chick-fil-A at Riverwood.

According to the agenda document, the request is to reduce setbacks to allow for a drive-thru canopy. At the Columbia County Planning Commission on Dec. 4, County planner Will Butler noted that, according to the concept plan for the restaurant, the applicants “beefed up” the area along Washington Road with shrubbery and other foliage “to help screen that as much as possible,” the Augusta Press previously reported.

Staff is recommending approval of the request.

The commission will also discuss a request for a waiver of distance for property at the intersection of Columbia Road and William Few Parkway. The applicant is looking at a possible grocery store going on part of the property. Due to the grocery store possibly selling alcohol, the waiver is needed due to its proximity to Patriots Park.

“The waiver of distance requirements only waives the distance requirement for a grocery store of more than 25,000 sf. Also, the waiver does not waive any other requirements for alcohol license approval, nor does it guarantee any alcohol license will be approved,” according to the agenda document

Staff is recommending approval.

The Columbia County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at the Evans Government Center Complex. To view the full agenda, visit columbiacountyga.gov.
