The Columbia County school district will be addressing its own financial considerations as the Board of Education meets to address the budget Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Steven Flynt first introduced the proposed budget for the 2022-2023 school year during the Board of Education’s work session meeting on Tuesday, April 26. He also noted that, as law requires, the district will present the budget to the public and allow for public input two times.

“We have revenue at $293 million and expenditures of $290 million. Something you always want to see; typically you’d like to spend less than your expected revenue,” said Flynt at the April 26 meeting. “If you look at nutrition funds, we are going to be spending a little bit more than the revenue because we have some extra funds there that are going to be required to be spent down.”

The first budget presentation with public input is scheduled for Tuesday, May 3 at 8 a.m. at the Board of Education Office, 4781 Hereford Farm Road. The meeting will be open to the public, as well as livestreamed at https://bit.ly/ccsdlive.

The district will present the budget again on May 10 at 4:30 p.m. That meeting will also be livestreamed and will include a Q&A session. Final approval of the budget will be considered at the next work session on Tuesday, May 24.
