About 150 teams are expected to participate in the 27th annual Columbia County Cup youth soccer tournament Aug. 27-28.

“The tournament is just a great community type event” said Andrew Hammer, director of coaching for the Bulls Soccer Club, the host club for the event.

With players whose ages range from under 8 to under 19, teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and some other states in the Southeast will be represented.

Games will kick off at 8 a.m. Saturday and will end around 5 p.m. Sunday. All games will be played at Blanchard Woods Park and Patriots Park.

The Columbia County Cup involving the Bulls Soccer Club had 2,186 participants and had an estimated impact of $436,132 last year.

Hammer spoke highly of Columbia County and is proud of the economic boost the tournament brings for the community.

“Columbia County takes such good care of us to host and have this tournament,” he said. “It’s kind of cool when we can tell people that we filled up every hotel room in Columbia County. The restaurants are busy, so the economic impact to the county is pretty good.”

Hammer invites the public to come enjoy the fun. Admission is free to the public.

“I think you’ll see some really good soccer, and you are probably going to see around 1,000 Columbia County kids you’ll get to support,” Hammer said.
