Augusta has an expansive group of comic book artists and writers, and Jeremy Mace would like to bring them all together in one setting.

“My goal is to get up to 10 different people to come together to create a story and characters.  We could create a plot, do world building,” said Mace, who has been working on his own comic book for many years.

He plans to host the Collective Comics Creation Workshops beginning Aug. 5 at the Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta.

“By leveraging the group’s unique combination of talents and perspectives, we can “plus” each other’s concepts, art, writing and ideas by pushing each other to generate something more creative than could be achieved on our own,” Mace wrote in a Facebook post.

Mace drew his inspiration from Pixar when coming up with the idea of the workshops. The animation studio relies heavily on collaboration, and Mace wants to see what a local collaboration can produce. It could be a new comic book, a videogame, a series or it could be something completely new. Or it could simply foster relationships among area creatives.

“I have no idea what will happen. I don’t know who will be participating,” he said.

Mace plans to use comics and resource books from his collection as well as his own experience in trying to produce a comic called “Saving Mister Creep” as a foundation for the workshops.

“Saving Mister Creep” is about a super villain who has done his time. Now, he’s the only person who can save someone else. It’s a story of redemption, he said.

It’s been in the works for a couple of decades. He’s written the storyline and has gone through two different artists while working on the project.

The group will meet from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for seven consecutive Thursdays. The seminar will be free. To register, send an email to jeremymace@gmail.com.
