U.S. Rep. Rick Allen (R-Ga.) and U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) toured the headquarters of the Army Cyber Command Center of Excellence at Fort Gordon Thursday.
“This is going to be a world-class facility, bringing world-class attention to the people of our region,” said Wilson. “We’re working to promote the different colleges, university, high schools that are going to have a wonderful opportunity to provide for cyber education for wonderful jobs and opportunities here.”
Their tour featured a look at the construction upgrades taking place on the installation.
“While we were here, we found out there is $2 billion of infrastructure that is getting to be ready to developed,” Wilson said.
After the tour, Allen spoke to media and stressed the importance of cyber education.
“We got to up our game in education, especially in STEM and cyber side,” Allen said. “I believe we are going to start that right here in this district in these two states because we put together a plan in there to make a difference in education.”
Allen also spoke on the status current cyber technology campus being built at Fort Gordon.
“Construction is underway. You won’t recognize this base in a year. They said to us today there will be new construction or everything will be updated over the next five years,” he said.
