More construction has begun at the Columbia County Government Center Complex.

When citizens drive by on Ronald Regan Drive, they’ll see the parking lot in front of Building A, the administration building, being torn up. That’s to make way for a new Building A, said Steven Prather, director of facilities design and construction for Columbia County.

“We’re building this in the parking lot in front of our existing Building A,” Prather said. “It’s a four-story building, 81,000 square feet. It’s going to have our auditorium where our commission meetings are, commission chamber, all of engineering services, which makes up a lot of departments. But it will also include our new traffic control center. We’ll have 311 customer service located there, development services division, our planning division, our finance department, human resources department, county administration and then we have some shell space, future space we can have growth in.”

Prather said the work will be done in two parts, with the construction of Building A as the first part and then the demolition of the old Building A as the second part. The demolition will take place once county staff has moved into the new building, which is expected to take place in January 2026. The demolition and rest of the project is then expected to be finished by summer 2026.

This isn’t the only construction happening in the area. Work is ongoing to expand and renovate the Columbia County Judicial Center. Prather said they knew work would overlap, but the county planned for the justice center to start first and then the Building A project.

With both projects taking place, parking has become limited in the area. Signs are posted in the area directing patrons on where to go to get to parking. A map was also posted on the Columbia County, GA – Government Facebook page
