Last October, the Columbia County Board of Commissioners approved a setback variance for three parcels at the intersection of Hereford Farm and North Belair roads, to make way for a new facility proposed by Doctors Hospital.

Clifton Construction began building the new medical center at the beginning of the year, the progress of its development unhindered by Hurricane Helene, notes Clifton vice president William Walker.

What will be a 10,860-square-foot building will house a fully staffed emergency room facility, open 24-hours, with 11 treatment rooms equipped with diagnostic imaging tools, such as CT scanners and X-rays, lab services and a pharmacy onsite.

“Doctors Hospital Evans Emergency has everything the main hospital ER has,” said Walker. “It’s a state of the art, ground up project that Clifton Construction is proud to be partnered with Doctors Hospital on.”

The ER will be at the former location of Fatz Café, and across the street from Piedmont Prompt Care. Doctors Hospital elected to develop what will be the first dedicated emergency room facility in Columbia County to offer critical care services to one of the “fastest-growing counties in Georgia,” says CEO Joanna Conley.

“This freestanding emergency room will expand access to life-saving care and ensure that residents receive the exceptional treatment they deserve,” Conley said. “When and where they need it.”

Construction of Doctors Hospital Evans Emergency is expected to be completed, and the ER slated to open, in fall of this year.
