Contract with Wellstar Medical Group up for discussion Tuesday

A contract with Wellstar Medical Group is on the agenda for the Columbia County Community and Emergency Services committee for Tuesday.

According to the agenda document, licensed EMS agencies must have a medical director, and Dr. Mark Lopez has served as medical director for Columbia County Fire for over two decades. 

“Wellstar requires a contract and compensation for these services. The medical director approves our standards and protocols, develops training and keeps the agencies’ protocols updated with the latest in medical interventions. Dr. Lopez also serves as the chairman for the County EMS Advisory Board. The hourly rate for medical direction is $243 with an estimated 108 hours annually. The estimated annual total is $26,244. For the remainder of this fiscal year, the funds will come from Fire Rescue contingency and will be budgeted in all future years. The contract is renewable annually,” according to the agenda document.

Staff is recommending the approval of the contract with Wellstar Medical Group. 

Also on the on the agenda for the CES committee is  an intergovernmental agreement with Harlem High School for the donation of field equipment. 

“The County owns a Toro Sand Pro 5040 Infield Drag which has been identified as

surplus equipment. Harlem High School has expressed a need and an interest in the above mentioned field equipment for use at the school,” according to the agenda document. 

Staff is recommending the equipment be declared surplus and donated to Harlem High School.

On the agenda for the Columbia County Public Works and Engineering Services committee is a resolution regarding the extension of time for satisfactory completion of improvements on John Deere Parkway. 

“The Board deeded John Deere Parkway to John Deere Commercial Products with the

condition that they had to make improvement within two years. John Deere has requested to extend the timeline of their existing road project due to utility/construction delays they have faced,” according to the agenda document.

Staff is recommending a one-year extension, which would expire on Sept. 19, 2026.
