Contractor approved for new North Augusta public safety building

The North Augusta City Council voted unanimously Monday Oct. 3 to hire Hood Construction as general contractor for the new North Augusta Public Safety building that is to be built at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Observatory Avenue.

Hood Construction is located out of Columbia but has promised to use local subcontractors as part of its bid application.

According to City Administrator Jim Clifford, a total of five companies bid on the project.

The former buildings on the site have been demolished and asbestos remediation is complete, meaning construction can move forward.

Construction is scheduled to begin in January or February 2023.
