Work on Transportation Investment Act projects in downtown Augusta continues and will keep the Augusta Canal bridge on 13th Street closed through the winter, city officials said.

“There was a delay in the specialty contractor arriving to do the canal work,” a city statement said. “The street should open to full traffic prior to the 2024 Masters Tournament.”

Thirteenth Street has been closed to through traffic between Walton Way and Telfair Street for the bridge project, road and shoulder work since June, limiting access to Meadow Garden, Walton Rehab, other businesses and hospitals.

On Greene Street, outside lanes will be closed in both directions between Fifth and East Boundary streets. Starting in 2024, entire blocks of Greene will be closed in that section for installation of storm drain infrastructure

Work on the shoulders of Sixth Street also will continue into January 2024, the statement said, with lane shifts after the holidays on Sixth between Telfair and Fenwick streets.

Fifth Street will remain closed between Broad and Reynolds streets into the new year, with lane shifts between Ellis and Broad, it said.
