A Martinez man who likes driving an old NYPD police cruiser got in hot water with Columbia County deputies after using the siren to intimidate another driver.
Alden Stevenson Lord, 39, was arrested by Columbia County deputies over the weekend for impersonating a public officer or employee.
Deputies were called to a gas station along South Belair Road late Sunday, where another driver said he believed Lord was imitating a police officer. The driver said while he was parked, Lord pulled up behind him, blaring a siren. The driver was startled, and quickly moved his vehicle to another parking spot. The driver then watched as Lord got out of the cruiser and went into the business.
Concerned that Lord was not a real officer, the driver called 911. Deputies arrived in time to find Lord leaving the business. He confirmed that the cruiser belonged to him and admitted to using the vehicle’s siren, saying he did so because the vehicle’s horn does not work.
Lord told deputies he purchased the vehicle off of Facebook Marketplace and believed it was “sufficiently marked as not being an ‘in-service’ police car,” according to reports.
Deputies read Lord the state statute describing his crime, and Lord admitted he might be in trouble. Lord then told deputies, “I like driving it because no one pulls out in front of me while I’m driving it.”
On his Facebook page, Lord posted a picture of the vehicle showing it has “NOT 5 0” on its Georgia license plate.
