I have been trying to do all the things that the experts have suggested. I wear a mask in public, and we limited our family gatherings over the holidays. As someone with an auto-immune disorder, I know that I am particularly at risk, and I have tried to take the necessary precautions.
But last week, my mother-in-law (who lives with my wife and me) decided to take the test because someone she knows tested positive. Then, over the weekend, she began to fall ill. On Sunday, I began showing symptoms. We got the results Monday morning. We all have COVID-19.
As I said, the symptoms began Sunday, but the virus really hit me like a ton of bricks early Monday morning. Today was supposed to be one of the greatest days of my life as we officially launched The Augusta Press. Instead, I had to call in sick and prepare for the possibility of being hospitalized.

The symptoms I have are fever and cough like a bad cold. I have also lost my sense of taste. But the worst thing is this headache. My dog started barking yesterday morning, and it felt like an ice pick was being driven into my head.
I will keep everyone informed of my progress in battling this virus, but I would like to ask you to pray for me and my family.
Most importantly, and the reason I am writing this to you from my bedside, I want to stress to you to please, please take this virus seriously. Take the precautions even if it does look a little silly for everyone to have a mask on and carry hand sanitizer in their pockets.
You do not want to get this virus. It is miserable, and, it can make you feel like maybe you’d rather be dead. It is also deadly. As is true for so many of us, I have lost several dear friends to Covid-19. The latest was Kathy Arnold, a dear lady and a wonderful friend of our family. Kathy fought hard but ultimately lost the fight with this dreadful virus. I want to offer my sincerest condolences to Kathy’s family.
