Governor Brian Kemp outlined the state’s current COVID-19 response and announced that as of
Thursday, March 25, the vaccine will be made available to all Georgians over the age of 16.
Currently, the state only provides the Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer versions of the vaccine,
which require two doses.
Kemp says that 74% of seniors (or about 1.04 million seniors) have received the vaccine
bringing the total around 3.2 million Georgians overall who have been inoculated with the first
round.
The bad news is that the state of Georgia ranks 49th in terms of states receiving the vaccine
from the federal government, according to Kemp.
“The CDC has come out and said we rank as second lowest per 100,000 people in receiving the
vaccine by the federal government,” Kemp said.
Therefore, Kemp said that 70% of the vaccines on hand will be targeted to North Georgia
and the Metro Atlanta region.
The state and federal governments are not the only ones providing the vaccine and Kemp urged
people to contact their local Walgreens, CVS, Kroger and Walmart to check availability.
“We cannot afford to have vaccines sitting in a freezer,” Kemp said. “Go ahead and get an
appointment. Get your place in line. This is our ticket to get back to normal.”
