The South Carolina Department of Health and Environment Control updated news outlets across the state on the status of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Dr. Brannon Traxler, DHEC public health director, said one concern continues to be the slow in demand for vaccinations. DHEC is working to identify specific demographics and locations where demand is lagging.

One age group of particular concern remains young adults. Dr. Traxler said they are looking at possibly partnering with institutions of higher education and places where that age group gathers to set up vaccination clinics.

In Augusta, a new pop-up clinic is opening next week.

Augusta University said it will kick off the new location at Diamond Lakes Regional Park in Hephzibah. It will open on Monday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m.

AU said this is an effort to reach the underserved communities.

Walkups and phone appointments are not available. “Individuals can check state eligibility requirements at augustahealth.org/vaccine prior to registration and all registrations must be completed in advance on the AU Health website,” per the AU news release.
