The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and one establishment received a failing score from inspections conducted on Aug. 4–8.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 68 earned by Siya Ram Investments GA, LLC, located at 1050 Claussen Road, in Augusta.
During the inspection, the inspector noticed items being placed in the employee handwashing sink, which resulted in a four-point deduction.
“Avoid placing items in hand wash sink; use only for handwashing,” the report stated.
The inspector also reported finding items not cleaned properly, resulting in another four-point reduction to the health score.
“Food-contact surfaces and utensils not sanitized properly after cleaning,” the report stated.
Another nine points were deducted from the health score for the inspector noticing more food improperly stored.
“Maintain cold held TCS foods at 41F; cream cheese on display was 53F,” the report stated. “Advise using time as control with written instructions, if unable to keep food on display at 41F or below.”
The second lowest score of the week was an 82 given to the Pineapple Ink Tavern, located at 1002 Broad St., in Augusta.
The inspector deducted nine points for noticing food improperly stored.
“Observed temperature of beef, chicken, and French toast batter over the required cold holding temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below,” the report stated.
During the inspection, the inspector deducted another nine points for finding more food not stored according to health code standards.
“Observed sausage being hot held at 68 degrees Fahrenheit,” the report stated. “[Temperature control safety] food needs to be kept 135 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
The inspector also found food items unlabeled, which resulted in another four-point reduction.
“Observed several food (pork, rice, shrimp, chicken, and beef) stored without a prep and discard date in the coolers,” the report stated.
For witnessing employees wearing accessories and not donning proper gear during food prep, the inspector deducted a final six points from the health score.
“Observed employee without a proper hair restraint actively preparing food,” the report stated. “Observed employee wearing a watch and bracelets while actively preparing food.”
Following the Pineapple Ink Tavern inspection, the third lowest score of the week was an 84 given to a Whiskey Bar Kitchen, located at 1048 Broad St., in Augusta.
The inspector deducted four points for noticing bacterial build up on kitchen equipment.
“Observed black buildup on the prep top cooler’s door. Observed dishes stored clean with residue on rack,” the report stated.
During the inspection, the inspector deducted another nine points for noticing food being improperly stored.
“Observed temperature controlled for safety foods (cut lettuce-45 degrees Fahrenheit, cheese-47 degrees Fahrenheit, and cut tomatoes-43 degrees Fahrenheit) being cold held above 41 degrees Fahrenheit in prep top cooler and reach-in-cooler,” the report stated. “Temperature controlled for safety foods must be cold holding at 41 degrees Fahrenheit and below.”
Another three points were docked from the establishment’s health inspection score due to the inspector witnessing an employee prepping food without proper protective gear.
“Observed employee without a beard restraint actively prepping food,” the report stated. “Beard restraints must be worn when beard is half an inch and greater.”
