Creating Goals for Columbia County Recreational Facilities

Columbia County announces the opening of Gateway Boulevard Extension

Date: June 22, 2021

Columbia County residents have the chance to weigh in on what they want to see on the recreation front for the coming years.

A project called Recreate Columbia County is asking residents how they are currently using recreation facilities, which ones they use most and what they want to see added or expanded.

Working with the county are Wood+Partners, Inc., a landscape architecture firm from Hilton Head Island and PROS Consulting, Inc, an Indiana firm that specializes in helping local governments with sports and recreation projects.

During a Thursday night public meeting, residents both in attendance and joining virtually were asked basic questions on demographics including age range, ethnicity and what existing county recreation facilities they currently use. They were also asked what was needed. One item high on the list was improved aquatic facilities.

It is expected the project will be complete by early 2022.
