One person was arrested for a slaying during the week of Aug. 3, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office; however, the fatal shooting has been deemed justified by the investigations.

Of the crimes tracked by The Augusta Press, 232 were reported to the sheriff’s office for the week, including the Aug. 4 fatal shooting of Damien Tanksley, 35, at the Get It To Go on Windsor Spring Road. The sheriff investigation determined Tanksley was shot after pulling a firearm and threatening to kill another person several times. The incident was captured on the store’s security video.

There were also 82 assaults during the week, 11 of which were aggravated assaults and 36 involved family violence. Other violent crime included two home invasions and one robbery.

Property crimes reported during the week included nine burglaries, 29 vehicle break-ins, 47 thefts and 35 cases of property damage.
