After more than two weeks without a homicide, Richmond County Sheriff’s officers began work on three different homicides during the week of April 13-19.

On April 14 Brandon Peebles, 24, was shot to death on Prague Court. On April 17 JaJuan Russell, 21, was shot to death on the 3700 block of Oslo Road. And on April 18, 72-year-old Johnnie Coleman was shot to death on the 1900 block of Old Savannah Road.

A fourth homicide also occurred April 18, the fatal shooting of Jenefer Herron, 52, at 1739 Walton Way, but because of the timing, it was not included in the weekly report of crimes reported to the sheriff’s office, which is provided by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

A total of 232 crimes tracked by The Augusta Press were reported to the sheriff’s office during the week of April 13-19. In addition to the homicides, there were two armed robberies, two carjackings, and 76 assaults. Of those assaults, nine were aggravated assault or aggravated battery and 21 were family violence batteries.

Property crimes for the week included 13 burglaries, 55 thefts, and 20 cases of vehicle break-ins. There were 10 vehicle thefts included in 55 total thefts, six of which occurred after keys were left in the vehicles.
