The Columbia County Library was swarmed, Saturday, with Lego fans of all ages—builders and enthusiasts alike—for the 2025 CSRA Brick Con.

South Carolina Bricks LEGO User Group, or SC Bricks LUG,  coordinated the annual two-day festival celebrating the renowned building blocks. Visitors could stop by food vendors, participate in trivia games or watch any number of Lego-themed movies featured in the library’s Hardin Auditorium.

But the main draw of the event, of course, are the displays of elaborate Lego art. A perusal through the aisles on both library floors would show a vivid exhibit of pixelated brick constructions of everything from Star Wars and Harry Potter scenes to dioramas from fantasy novels or historical wonders of the world.

Mark Lorah, a structural engineer by profession, assembled replicas of Augusta landmarks, including the Augusta National Golf Course, the Imperial Theater and the Sacred Heart Cultural Center, as well as a mural from the Miller Theater’s interior.

Two of his latest works on display included angel wings, a painting of Christ as the Good Shepherd beneath giant hands—from Michelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam”—and a 3D replica of Da Vinci’s “The Vitruvian Man.”

“I like the buildings and so forth… and I’m familiar with them, and so I decided I wanted to challenge myself and start practicing my sculpturing skills in Lego,” said Lorah. “I said, OK, well, why don’t I just go ahead and choose what is arguably the most famous anatomical study that exists?”

SC Bricks hosts several similar Lego fan events throughout South Carolina, and launched the first CSRA convention at the Evans library in 2022, drawing an estimated 4,000 people.

The event had been postponed from its original scheduled date due to Hurricane Helene. On Saturday morning it had been delayed again, starting at noon rather than 10 a.m. to give time for participants stymied by Friday’s snowy weather. This didn’t slow down eager Lego fans, as roughly 2,000 had showed up by 2 p.m., recalled host and SC Bricks member Michael Dominy.

“It’s just a lot of people with the love of love of Legos who want to share,” Dominy said, who expects this year’s turnout to exceed last year’s record of 5,600.

CSRA Brick Con, free and open to the public, will continue through Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m., at the Columbia County Library, 7022 Evans Town Center Blvd. in Evans.
