The CSRA Good Trouble Coalition is inviting area houses of worship, businesses and individuals to join the National COVID-19 Memorial remotely on Jan. 19.

Participants can join the memorial by ringing bells, lighting candles, illuminating their homes or businesses in AMBER and documenting their remembrance on social media using #CSRAremembers. The bells and illuminations are planned for exactly at 5:30 p.m.

The memorial promotes a moment of remembrance and unity to recognize those who have died from COVID-19. The commemoration is organized to coincide with the national event at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C.

“This past year has been a difficult one around the country and here locally,” said Gayla Keesee, co-facilitator for the event. “We want to take the time to honor those who have died, support those who are fighting, and extend a thanks to those serving on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Churches confirmed as participating by ringing their bells: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Church of the Good Shepherd, Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and Tabernacle Baptist Church.

The Good Trouble Coalition is a group of individuals and organizations working together to educate/register voters, to increase civic engagement, and to build a better democracy. Their focus, according to Keese, is on nonpartisan activities. They do not endorse any candidates or political parties. Their aim with this event to recognize and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives and support their friends and family.
