The CSRA is expected to feel the impact of Tropical Storm Helene, which is expected to make landfall Thursday as a major hurricane.
According to Shawn Granato, director of Columbia County Emergency Management Agency, the path as of 11 a.m. Tuesday has the storm passing over Tallahassee and heading into Georgia overnight on Thursday. There will be some light rain on Wednesday during the day and the winds will pick up Thursday afternoon into Friday.
Heavier rain is expected to begin Thursday evening and continue into the night and into Friday morning. The National Weather Service is predicting a tornado threat for the CSRA for Thursday evening into Friday morning, according to Augusta Fire and EMA. Wind gusts could reach up to 40-45 mph and six inches of rain is expected, with flash flooding and river flooding possible.
