Jontavious Curry and the Thomson defense led the Bulldogs to a 26-0 shutout win against the Tattnall Warriors in round one of the 2A Georgia High School Football State Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 11.

It was wet and rainy at the Brickyard and it showed as both teams struggled to move the ball early.

The Bulldogs were the first team in scoring position after a short punt by the warriors’ punter. Thomson failed to take advantage, failing to convert on 4th and 7 inside the warriors 25.

Neither team would find the endzone in the first quarter as the score was tied 0-0 going into the second.

The Warriors run game worked early in the second quarter as they drove the ball into Bulldogs territory. Thomson’s defense stopped Tattnall on 4th down to keep the game tied 0-0.

Midway through the quarter, Curry broke off for a 48-yard touchdown run. Thomson kicker Tyler Giles converted the extra point, making the score 7-0 with 6:49 left in the first half.

The Warriors began the second half with some much needed momentum as they forced an interception and took over at Thomson’s 24-yard line.

A bad snap on 4th and 1 for the Warriors led to another failed opportunity, turning the ball over on downs.

Late in the third quarter, Thomson quarterback Jahkiaus Jones found Curry for a 57-yard touchdown pass. Giles missed the extra point, but the Bulldogs led 13-0.

After a good return on the punt, Jones rushed in a 3-yard touchdown to start the fourth.

Thomson defense would force a fumble late and Curry sealed the win with his 3rd touchdown of the night on a 1 yard run with under 4 minutes left in the game.
