Cyber Center, Augusta Tech partner to create new educational opportunities

Date: December 10, 2024

The U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence (CCoE) and Augusta Technical College (ATC) are now partnering to offer continuing education credits for Service Members seeking degrees in cybersecurity.

The CCoE trains approximately 22,000 Service Members annually and partnerships like these could help maintain a ready workforce capable of defending our nation in the cyber domain.

Sealing the deal

A ceremonial signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two entities was signed by ATC President Dr. Jermaine Whirl and Fort Eisenhower Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Ryan Janovic, on Thursday afternoon.

“The strength of any military lies not only in its physical readiness, but in the intellect and character of its Soldiers,” said Brig. Gen. Mark Miles during the signing. “Education, like military discipline, is the cornerstone of resilience, innovation, and unity. It shapes minds, fuels progress, and, most importantly, fortifies the spirit of service to something greater than oneself.”

This MOU establishes the terms for awarding course credit from Augusta Technical College to service members who completed training/education courses at the CCoE in Cyber Operations, phases one and two.

The credits will apply towards an associate’s in applied science from Augusta Technical College’s cyber security programs.

Educational opportunities for soldiers

This initiative is aiming to create educational opportunities for soldiers to apply credits earned in the U.S. Army toward their college education to help decrease the cost and timeframe needed to complete essential degrees.

“Augusta Tech is proud to renew and strengthen our academic pathways for members of the Fort Eisenhower Community,” said ATC President Dr. Jermaine Whirl. “This agreement ensures that well fulfill our mission of workforce development while also supporting the national security mission of our local and national command.”

Whirl continued by expressing appreciation for Fort Eisenhower leadership in “entrusting us with this incredible opportunity to support their active-duty soldiers, and the dependents of our military community.”

Augusta Technical College currently has more than 450 Active, Reserve, Retired or Veterans enrolled in a variety of programs including cyber security.
