*North Augusta, SC* – Augusta GreenJackets 3B David McCabe was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week of May 22nd to May 28th, the league announced on Monday. McCabe becomes the first GreenJackets player to pick up a league-wide honor in the 2023 season.

The Oshawa, Ontario born McCabe, affectionately nicknamed “Big Maple,” put up dominant numbers over the last week of action. Against the visiting Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (Chicago White Sox), McCabe hit .400, going 8-20 with six extra-base hits in five games of action. He homered four times in three games, including a two-homer, four-RBI contest on Friday. His slash line for the week featured a .400 batting average, a .400 on-base percentage, and an astronomical slugging percentage of 1.100.

“We’re super happy for him to receive this award,” said GreenJackets manager Cody Gabella. “It’s a testament to the hard work he puts in on and off the field every day, and he goes about things the right way in all facets of the game.”

On the season, McCabe leads the GreenJackets in base hits (39), total bases (72), home runs (8), doubles (7), runs batted in (25), slugging (.493), and OPS (.874). McCabe was a fourth-round selection out of Charlotte in the 2022 MLB Draft.

The GreenJackets head on the road this week to take on the Charleston RiverDogs (Tampa Bay Rays). The GreenJackets will return to SRP Park for a two-week action packed homestand, playing 12 games from June 6th all the way through June 18th.
