Dead cockroach found in mayo discovered at one restaurant in this week’s health inspection

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and two restaurants received a failing score from June 3-7.

A Town Wings, 2622 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta received a failing score of 58. Inspector’s comments included: “observed mayo at prep top cooler with dead cockroach inside” and “observed flies throughout kitchen.”

Other inspector’s comments included: “observed all employees in kitchen not washing hands prior to food prep,” “observed employee move garbage can and place gloves on after to proceed with food prep,” “observed handwashing sink closest to employees and food contact surfaces without soap,” “observed tomatoes, shrimp, onion, bell peppers, and beef cold holding above 41 degrees,” “observed Raid bug spray stored amongst cleaning agents,” “observed several non-food grade containers without labels storing sugar and flour,” and “observed dead fly near drink machine.”

The other restaurant that received a failing score was First Watch, 630 Crane Creek Drive Suite 405, Augusta, and it received a 66. Inspector’s comments included: “observed several food items on the line and coolers not covered,” “observed black build-up on the drink machine,” “observed bleu cheese, ham, roasted tomatoes, sausage, and cheese cold held at temperatures above 41F,” “observed bleu cheese, shallots, turkey, and tomatoes held past use by dates,” “observed quat sanitizer levels greater than 500ppm,” “observed coolers not functioning properly to keep foods at proper temperatures,” “observed an employee use a dry paper towel to wipe their face and then wipe prep counter with same paper towel,” “observed the most current health inspection not posted,” and “observed mop head sitting in sink.”

Inspector’s comments included: “CFSM/PIC responsible for active control of food temps, dish washing, cleanser storage,” “observed expired Food Manager Certification (exp. 8/23), need certified food service manager for restaurant,” “no paper towels at handwash sink,” “sanitize utensils with 50-100ppm bleach in final rinse; keep sanitizer on hand/at three-compartment sink; do not use dish machine for washing until properly repaired and tested,” “maintain cold food at 41F and below; repair walk-in, reach-in coolers to maintain food at proper temperatures,” “store food and utensils separate from cleansers to avoid cross contamination,” and pesticide use not in accordance with manufacturer’s directions (observed residential pesticide in kitchen, advise using certified pest control operator for pest control); pesticide removed from kitchen.”
