The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating another homicide that occurred Sunday in Clearwater.
Around 5:06 p.m., several 911 calls reported multiple shots fired near Jefferson Davis Highway at Belvedere Road.
Witness reports were of four different cars with their occupants shooting at each other with handguns, according to a news release from Capt. Eric Abdullah with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
Deangelo R. Washington, 22, was found dead in the driver’s seat of his car behind a home on Augusta Road, according to an email from Aiken County Coroner Darryl Abels.
“Preliminary findings of this investigation revealed that this shooting may have been a result of a disturbance from an event at Midland Valley High School,” the release said.
The shootings may have been the result of a disturbance at the alumni basketball game that occurred Sunday. A Facebook announcement called it the “1st Annual South Carolina Alumni Basketball Tournament.” A local resident said, “Let’s Make This ONE TO REMEMBER!!!”
Abels said Washington’s body will be sent to Newberry for an autopsy.
“We are in the early stages of this investigation and community assistance is important to
any investigation. We ask that if anyone has any information that would lead to the whereabouts
and identities of any suspects, we encourage them to contact the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office at
(803) 648-6811. These suspects should be considered as armed and dangerous,” the news release continued.
