Deputy charged with dealing drugs at jail

Date: June 26, 2023

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and fired another deputy, this time for dealing drugs at the jail.

Arrington Mursier, 28, is charged with possession of Schedule 1 narcotics with the intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute narcotics and violation of oath by a public officer.

The sheriff’s investigations division learned two days ago that Mursier was involved in bringing contraband into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center, a statement said.

He was terminated, arrested and booked into the jail, it said.

Mursier had been with the sheriff’s office since June 11, 2022.

Sheriff Richard Roundtree has called a news conference at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday that will be live-streamed on the sheriff’s office Facebook page.

The incident follows the June 15 arrest of Deputy Joseph Clarke, 29, for sexual battery and aggravated sodomy against an employee of the public defender’s office in a jail interview room.

On June 5, Deputy Demondre Mahoney was arrested and fired for bringing contraband into the jail.
