Deputy jailed arrested for sexual activity with female inmate

Richmond County Deputy Dearieus Fluellen was arrested after engaging in sexual activity with a female inmate while on duty at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

On Wednesday, March 30th, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office received information and the Criminal Investigative Division immediately initiated an investigation into the allegation, according to a news release. As a result of that investigation, Fluellen, 22, of Augusta has been arrested and charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of violation of oath by public officer.

Both charges are felonies. Fluellen, who was hired by the sheriff’s office in September 2021, has been terminated from the agency and has been booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

This investigation is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.
